10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects
Spring cleaning is not fun for most of us. But it has to be done. As the holidays and winter come to an end and we start looking forward to spring, something inside of us encourages us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and throwing away things we’ve piled up over the winter.
But who says spring cleaning is limited to the inside of a home?
The outside of your home could use a little refreshing after a cold, wet winter, too!
It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning
Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will improve the appearance of your home in New Braunfels, and, more importantly, will provide much-needed maintenance and care that will save you money in years to come.
1. Gutter Cleaning
Spring is the ideal time of year to clean your gutters, since a lot of leaves and debris collected during the fall and winter. The pollen count is at its highest during the spring, making a mess in your gutters and downspouts if they are not properly cleaned.
Plus, bugs and critters are scavenging for places to build their homes during spring, so getting your gutters cleaned will help to prevent an infestation in your home.
Gutter cleaning will consist of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew, rust stains and restoring them to a like-new appearance.
2. Window Cleaning
Home window cleaning is necessary for spring cleaning. Ground floor windows will not cause you much of a problem, but any second and third floor windows are a bit tougher to reach.
Cleaning windows by hand is an exhausting job, and will need a lot of supplies, not to mention climbing up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your home’s windows is the recommended way to get the panes and the outer frame nice and clean.
3. Pressure Washing
You don’t want clean gutters and windows on a dirty home. That means you are going to want to pressure wash your home too!
Pressure washing is quick, effective and affordable. You can pressure clean your home, outdoor furniture, patios, porches and walkways with very little effort. It will remove dirt and mud so they won’t permanently stain your home, and you can prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.
4. Driveway Cleaning
Clearing off your home’s driveway and giving it a good cleaning might seem strange since you will just be driving on it, but, a clean, cared for driveway can increase the curb appeal of your home.
A professional pressure washer will do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it is pavement, asphalt, stone or another material. Also consider adding a gravel border to your home’s driveway to really help it pop!
5. Patio Cleaning
Your home’s patio probably gets the most use in the summer, so it can be easy to forget about it during the winter since you are not doing a lot of outdoor entertaining, leisure or grilling. Your patio can be in rough condition the first time you go onto it in the spring.
Detergent and water – and a little hard work – are sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if there are signs of mold or algae, you need to consider a more serious option, like professional power washing, to guarantee that friends and family can enjoy your patio all summer long.
6. Roof Cleaning
Mold and moss are common home roof problems in New Braunfels. While you are cleaning the outside of your home, it is a great time to pressure clean your home’s roof as well, but you will need to use a different process than what you use for the rest of your home’s exterior cleaning.
If you start to see streaks on your home’s roof, algae is most likely the cause. Moss is usually obvious, too. These contaminants can’t be wiped off shingles, nor can you pressure wash the roof of your home. Both of these methods will damage the shingles on your home’s roof.
The ideal course of action for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-bleach, half-water solution and then leave it be. This mixture will eliminate all organisms on your home’s roof without reducing its lifespan.
7. Spruce up the Front
The front of your home is going to be what most people passing by see, so try to make the best impression possible for visitors and for yourself! Returning home to a beautiful exterior will improve your day, and will probably motivate you to spend more time outside.
Clean your front porch with soap and water or a good pressure wash. Wipe cobwebs and mud off of the front door, and consider painting it for a fresh look! Clean unnoticed areas including the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.
8. Organize Outdoor Tools
You will soon be spending much more time outdoors, so spring is a wonderful opportunity to organize the things you will need for outdoor work.
Gardening tools and pool care equipment must all have an exact place outside your home – a place that it is safe from harsh weather and out of sight so it is not a constant eyesore to anyone. Taking the time to organize in the spring will allow you to enjoy the outside of your home much more during the time of year when you spend the most time outside.
9. Lawn Care & Landscaping
Your yard, trees and garden bushes make a huge impact on the look of your home.
Eliminate weeds near your flower beds and walkways, till up places where you might be planting later on and brush off walkways. You can spray pre-emergent weed poison to make yard care easier on yourself throughout the summer. Trim all the bushes too.
10. Clean the Grill
After sitting unused for months, your grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are unappetizing, but they can make you and your family ill.
Wet it down to remove ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber or grill brush (so you do not leave behind metal particles that can sometimes get into food) and a basic detergent or degreaser.
You could probably complete all of these projects over the course of a few weekends but it is going to be a lot of hard work. Instead, give us a call!
